| In 1921 Melvin Binkley and Harry Ober decided that the same steam
engines they operated to power their thrashing rigs on Lancaster County
farms could also be used to power stone crushing equipment. They chose
a site just outside small town of East Petersburg to begin the production
of crushed limestone. Today crushed stone is quarried on three hundred
acres at the rate of 600 tons per hour. In 1940, the company expanded its operation with the manufacturing of
concrete block at the East Petersburg Location. In 1985, the company
purchased and modernized an existing block plant in Cochranville, PA.
Today these two plants ship concrete masonry products to Pennsylvania,
Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.
Also, in 1942, the company expanded its operations by establishing an
affiliate company, Ready Mixed Concrete Company. Today, this company,
located in Lancaster, operates a fleet of 32 trucks which provide quality
concrete to the Lancaster County Area.
Presently, third and fourth generation family members participate in the
operation of the company which prides itself in providing quality products
and dependable service for the building and road construction industries.
